DEFEATED SANITY ist zweifellos eine der einzigartigsten, grenzüberschreitendsten und wichtigsten Bands in der Geschichte des extremen Death Metal. Ihre Musik ist ebenso technisch kohärent wie verblüffend und einprägsam. Ihr Labyrinth aus Riffs und musikalischen Passagen ist inspiriert von berüchtigten Klassikern des extremen Metal-Genres, aber auch stark von Jazz und progressiver Klassik geprägt.
Die Band besteht aus vier Mitgliedern. Angeführt wird die Band von Schlagzeuger Lille Gruber, dem Sohn des verstorbenen Mitbegründers Wolfgang Teske. Gruber wird von seinen Bandkollegen Jacob Schmidt (Bass), Josh Welshman (Gesang) und Vaughn Stoffey (Gitarre) unterstützt.
